Weekly GoAL COMPLETE
After my first week of pushing social media, it’s hard to feel satisfied but also wrong to feel like I haven’t accomplished anything. Directing most of my efforts into Facebook and Instagram, I joined some groups, found local artists and some local outlets connected to comics.
I was concentrating on keeping a posting schedule and trying to plan it to be manageable enough to accomplish every week. I did post a few more sketches than I would have liked but my week was very much a script writing and thumbnail sketching week.
On Instagram I’ve gained a few followers, but comparing them to the number of accounts reached is disappointing. I also have less likes per post than usual, but I am posting a lot more than I usually do as well. Next week I will be starting some larger drawings and preparing some canvas for painting, so I am curious if I see any difference in interaction.
I am hoping that if the art quality in my posts is better it might help gain more followers or at least reach a broader audience. In some way I think that the small number of viewers I have on Instagram are mostly connected to streamers from twitch. Some of which I am on friendly terms with, along with others that have not shown any love from the beginning and almost acting a group denying entry by looking the other way.

The added task of unblocking a kitchen/bathroom drain kind of put me in stress mode a bit this week. I have my main comic at page 20 of 22, webstore that has been slowly coming together and a couple pencil artwork waiting on my drawing board.
The projects were all humming along nicely until the drain incident. Then I got to see my task list from afar and wondered how I am ever going to get all this done. Like seeing the weight of all of it, all at once. Oh well. No retreat, no surrender?

The Goyle vs Kagami
A long time ago, I thought of a battle between a flying creature and a #ninja with stone armour covering his body. Back then there wasn’t a greater plan for them. Simply a challenge just to see if I could draw the picture. A #gargoyle that would turn to stone during the day versus a ninja finding out the limitations of his stone armour under the moonlight!
Since then, the characters have evolved into something else. Something a little more unique. If I ever get that far into the comic series, perhaps you will all see them one day!

I don’t know if some days are just destined to be a downhill journey or if it’s the classic don’t try to fix things unless they are broken scenario. But, it’s the second weekend in a row I’ve had to deal with #cleaning or #fixing consequently for wanting to improve something.

Bazzajaun Dire
Not a lot can be shared about old Bazzajaun Dire, or “Bazz”. He is a forgetful creature who spends his nights foraging for food in the forest and scavenging the remains of the unlucky down in the Gobalus Burrows.
His nature is unpredictable. His intentions can never be certain. But an encounter with Bazz will likely be the start of a strange adventure! Or at least an interesting chance to trade supplies!
However, those travelling alongside him should make sure to watch their backs! His skill with the double blade is unmatched! And he has a history of killing his companions after forgetting who they are!

I don’t know how many time the cats, or my kids have stopped me from being creative. This past weekend was one of the most frustrating times its happened. My family was away, leaving me alone to complete a few projects that had been haunting me for a long time.
To cut a long story short, one of the cats fell out of a window or from the balcony and disappeared afterwards. I spent most of the day drawing and checking for the cat in the garden or across the main street every hour or so. Once again majorly #distracted. Which happens a lot lately!
I found him about 12 hours later freaked out and sneaking around under a place I had checked a dozen times. Happy I found him, still annoyed at most of the things he does to distract me...
I don’t really know what happened, but I have thought up a few possible scenarios 😂

It comes around every year! WrestleMania! Although I haven’t really watched it for years, and what used to be one 4-hour event has now turned into a two-day WrestleMania weekend, I did sit down and watch some wrestling with my kids.
It was funny to watch it with someone young enough to believe in the realism of it and be entertained by the theatrics one eventually gets old enough to see through.
That is one of the joys of having kids though. Being able to see life through someone else’s eyes and enjoy some of the things that can slowly become ridiculous the older we get. Even if it’s a chair shot or a back flip off the top rope 😂

Although I’ve been a father for a few years now, sitting down at the decorated birthday table in front of a cake my kids baked for me, I felt a sense of contentment in just being me.

My wife and kids laughing at my amazing dad jokes while I unwrapped handmade gifts. Eating way too much before playing a family split screen session of crash team racing.
It didn’t just make for a great birthday, but a wonderful life moment. One of those moments that give a sense of clarity. The feeling of being in the right place at the right time.
Amongst the hope, dreams and aspirations, I think those moments can be rare in life. So, I wanted to at least make a record of this one in a comic strip!

#Writing and planning issue 2 of my #indycomic got me so lost in my own #worldbuilding that I needed to sort out my #locations a little bit. Most of this stuff has lived in my head for a while so it's cool to see it on a #map.
Hopefully the #originalcharacters have somewhere permanent to live now that the map is sketched out.

Just a quick update on what has been floating around on the #drawing board.
We had a good drawing session over the weekend. Had some great company over on #twitch for an 8-hour #stream including a few internet disruptions and managed to get the first page of issue 2 finished.
It was a great start for the month and an exciting time for me as it means the #comic art for issue 2 is underway!!! No turning back!!

Page 2 of the first issue. I remember drawing this and needing to work out the shadow going from the face in panel one and how it slowly flows down into the clouds below. This weird transition into panels is somethng I enjoy experimenting with and hope I can improve on in the second issue.

My first time packing and sending some comics. I honestly got a bit emotional aswhile using the last hours of the day, and the help of my daughter to get them packed and ready to send.
This last year, or even two, has been a slow road to building up and testing if I really could run an online store, stream and create a comic on a regular basis.
Every thing I've done in these two years was completely new to me, so came with an extra level of stress as I tried to learn it, then adapt it to my daily routine.
Even buying international stamps online and getting the packaging was a little bundle of nerves until they finally got sent. Feeling like a little kid as I asked the lady at the post office if everything looked fine lol
A lot of things have been on hold while working all this out. Over the next few weeks I will be on holiday, relaxing and clearing my thoughts, but hopefully writing scripts during the quiet times.
I will be back in full force, full of caffeign and ready to go next month.

My Grunge wizard concept sketch #3 (timelapse)
I've been slowly worrking on giving this guy a personality, while developing his clothing.
He now has a name, his look is pretty much done. (I might play around with the syle of the hat/beanie). I did start off with a pointy had, but changed my mind very quickly.
I ended up playing around and making some background music for this timelapse. Was fun to mix n match with some beats and loops. It did take a bit longer than I wanted so also posted a day later than I wanted to.
I think the next step is to sketch out his house, get a visual idea of how he and the other villagers artound him live.

I've been playing around with different ways to portray a wizard, or wizards. At this point I only really need to design one wizard, but I also want to keep an open mind if he would be part of a guild or clan. Perhaps after a right of passage all wizards have some kind of clothing in common. Sketching this guy out did open the floodgates of ideas though.
Some ideas are worth noting down for the future, others will probably make me just do creative circles lol.
One problem I have is that a lot of characters have an undecided ending. A lot of what I have written or alrerady planned is more about origins, so when I get an idea, I can see a conclusion for certain characters.
For example, this wizard is just a side character that we see briefly, but I feel I can explain a while lot about someone else be designing his outfit right. This was unexpected and led me to be designing him rather than how the house looks where he lives, which I thought was more important.
I am trying to avoid a typical wizards hat. As , much as I feel it might complete an outfit, I want to avoid a Gandalf vibe, or dumbledore. I might try one sketch with the hat, just too see. But I'm really trying tomaeke the beanie style work, connecting them with gnomes a little.

My son's birthday has slowly come to an end, the last Lego figure (a war machine robot) was put together, and I decided to go for a run.
Running has become easier lately, although I wouldn't go around bragging about my speed. 😂
The sky had been wanting to rain for most of the evening, releasing a few drops here and there. It wasn't much but enough to bring some things inside from the balcony to be safe.
While running I thought about life, the insanity of the world we live in and how the future may end up.
It wasn't a sad moment, I guess it was just a chance for my mind to wander with me.
Then it started to rain. The wind picked up and I began to worry about my phone getting wet 😆, it kind of reminded me of the Witcher 3. And how the wind seems to be forever blowing through the long grass and trees.
I was going to draw a bit before sleeping, but I guess the happiness of a child enjoying his birthday was enough to feel complete for the day.
Tomorrow will be waiting for me.

I'm building up to some larger pictures next month, so lately I've been sketching ideas and giving my elbow a rest as it seems to be giving me trouble the longer i draw lately. A bit of sport and exercise should do the trick!
These sketches are of Javanicus, a rough and tough pirate god? That was very hard not to be inspired by Jack Sparrow lol. This guy will make an appearence in the comic sometime soon, when? I can't say exactly. But when he does it will make a splash!!

A quick concept for the BROKEN BRAWLS commentators. A possible webtoon project I want to start soon.
Still hesitant to say webtoon, as I tend to want to make comic page layouts a lot more. So, we will see if I stick to webtoon (scrolling) format or standard comic page layouts. Or maybe try to do both, if thats possible.
Either way I wanted the comic to have simple cartoon like graphics so that it doesn take too much art time and use the extra time to make jokes and write the stories.
They both don't have names yet, well one is Skully and the other Vampie lol but i really want better names.
But yeah what do you think? Anyone have a better name that skully?😂

I think this canvas was 60x60. I did this as a birthday gift, used acrylics. it took less thana day, but used a pokemon card as reference. You can't really see on the pgot but the yellow is actually gold paint and looks pretty cool when the light hits it.

Basketball got cancelled tonight. So I was doing stretches and contemplating going for a run. Ended up taking a photo of my hat 😂. Why? Because I did very little art today, so I have nothing to show.
Well I did sketch out the cover for issue 2, but got stuck writing in one of the scenes on page 14. It's weird that one day I can plan 10 pages, then another day I struggle to do 2.
Maybe it's because page 14 is the middle of the book and where the story starts to resolve what was previously built up.
I believe I got the story in a good place and will carry on a little more tonight, after a run... Maybe 🤔

Picked up some art supplies today!!
A 60cm x 40cm Stretched canvas so I can get started on the cover for ABROKENSLEEP Issue #2, a really thin brush (for inking) that I seem to have already misplaced, a 14B Graphite pencil to replace the one I misplaced a while ago...
I also finally got around to buying an electric eraser!! Looking forward to trying that out.
I went to the local comic store and got some comic bags, so I can keep those printed comic fresh! Or at least safe.
Oh, and I got a big roll of seidenpapier (in german) The lady at the art store said I can use it to protect pictures for shipping, and from my smudgy hands lol.
Will have something to share after trying these out!!

Here is the final print art from page 4 of A BROKEN SLEEP Issue #1: Washed up. Comparing this to the pencil art I posted a few days ago, this page reflects how I wanted to use heavy shadow, minimal colour and dominant shapes to flow the art through the page. I'm still learning and I hope I can improve on what I've created.

Finally got my hands on the test prints of the comic first issue. It Was great to feel the paper weight and see how the art looked on paper instead of the screen.😎
Really feels like a weight from my shoulders getting this far.
Flicking through the pages I noticed all the design elements and characters I had to build from scratch while designing the feel of this book and future issues.
The template is there, and I'm really looking forward to playing around with what comes next!!

Lately I've been so focused, I feel my creativity is just me introvertedly thinking with a pen, paper and keyboard. Not really for anyone else to see, more like a puzzle I've been trying to solve for what seems like forever.
My first attempt at a comic script is in it's 4th (and final) revision, the page layouts are done and about ready for me to start the final art work for it.
It has been challenging trying to build some kind of writing style while creating the first introduction to a fictional world, and come to terms with my ability as an artist and writer.
I didn't have time to participate in any "inktober" challenges this year, but did have this pumpkin man next to me when I needed a moment away from typing.

I spent a good portion of last month trying to get some progress done on this mighty picture. I'm happy to have the initial layout and sketch done for this and going to rest up and contemplate the best way to go about inking, or painting the final stages of the artwork.
The artwork is an art reward/redeem for a group of people who decided to make a daily routine of supporting what I was doing creatively on twitch and discord. During a rough time their efforts brought me out of a dark place and back to doing what I love most. Creating!

Facebook on the other hand, what little steps I made felt like progress. Probably because I have never really interacted on Facebook in the past, and everything seems so fresh and new.
My Facebook art piece titled: The Facebook! Original I know... Finally has a clear direction, so I can carry on with that too. I decided that I would write the name and initials of the first 100 followers of the Facebook page on the pages of, um the facebook. Now the follower total is 62, so comparing that to 22 from last week is the positive vibe I am hanging onto going into next week.
